Our graduate program in Spanish features a wide variety of courses in literature, linguistics, film studies, history, culture, pedagogy and other topics. Courses are taught by faculty who are active researchers in their fields. With graduate students from the United States, Latin America and Spain, the graduate program brings together dedicated students with diverse backgrounds and professional and academic experiences.

Ideal for Working Professional or Traditional Students

All our Spanish graduate courses are taught in the evenings or asynchronously online which allows us to serve traditional as well as non-traditional students. We offer a number of teaching assistantships and tuition scholarships to incoming students on a competitive basis.

    Scholarships

    Scholarships for International Students

    University Scholarship Application - 

    • Amount: Varies by scholarship
    • Terms: Application open to all UNCW population. Questions in application link to specific scholarship opportunities.
    • Deadline: December 1 – March 1

    International Undergraduate Degree Seeking Scholarship (undergraduate only)

    • Amount: $2,000 - $5,000 per academic year, for up to four years
    • Terms - This scholarship is a renewable award for undergraduate students needing F-1 visa sponsorship (excluding TABSA and Marmara) who have demonstrated elite academic ability and has excelled in high school and demonstrated continued interest in UNCW. Consideration for this award is based on the student’s UNCW application; no additional action is required to be considered.

    Graduate Assistantships

    • Amount: Varies based on department offerings. Typically range from $12,000-13,000 per academic year for 20 hours of work.

    Graduate Tuition Remissions (Uncommon & Competitive)

    • How it Works: A tuition remission is paired with an assistantship. The pairing brings the out-of-state tuition to the in-state rate for a cost savings.  Note:  This does not change the residency status for tuition purposes.  

    Global Student Ambassador Scholarship

    Amount - $2,000, split up to $1,000 each semester for one year (fall & spring semesters).

    Terms

    • Only current international students on an F-1 visa are eligible to apply.
    • To be eligible students must be on track to be full-time current students for the upcoming academic year.
    • Students must commit to one academic year of involvement/interaction with OISS and international students.
    • Students who receive this award will serve as a Global Student Ambassador for the following academic year (fall & spring semester).
    • In order to maintain the scholarship throughout the year, ambassadors have to fulfill ALL of their responsibilities. Otherwise, the scholarship will be suspended.
    • Scholarship recipients must attend Ambassador Orientation before the spring semester ends.
