Program Overview

In an increasingly interdependent world, the study of languages and cultures, including those of immigrants to the United States, is a fundamental part of every student’s education.

All students take a core group of classes that dive into the nature of language, how language creates and reflects society, and how language is used in a variety of texts. You will have the opportunity to become proficient in one or more languages, including studying the cultures of the societies that use those languages. Take classes in French, German, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, and Wolof. Or, deepen your understanding of linguistics, including how language is structured and how languages apply to other areas, like sociolinguistics, neurolinguistics, and language policy.
