Program Overview

UWS’s BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science and BSc (Hons) Applied Biomedical Science degrees equip you with the skills and experience needed to play a vital role in modern healthcare provision.

These two degrees have been developed to provide a pathway to help you become a professional biomedical scientist.

Biomedical scientists play an essential role in the identification of diseases and improving the provision of healthcare.

You’ll receive a grounding in biology, chemistry and data analysis before progressing to study advanced aspects of biomedical science. Key strengths of our programmes are the development of practical laboratory and research skills.

While both degrees are accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), (essential if you want to work in the NHS), the Applied route is also approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). The Applied route includes an integrated 15-week placement in one of our partner hospital NHS laboratories and is particularly relevant if you want become a Biomedical Scientist in the NHS. Due to a limited number of NHS placements, entry to the Applied route is via a competitive selection process after completion of Year 2 of the Biomedical Science programme.
