Progression from Foundation

The Law pathway subjects prepare students for law degrees at Keele are informed by research and offer a critical approach to legal education in an enriched, inclusive environment, involving a range of professional activities and support. You will be able to go on to train as a solicitor or barrister following graduation, or prepare for a legal career of your choice from a range of options.

The Humanities and Social Sciences subjects are focused on the ways in which we engage with one another as human beings in contexts ranging from the local to the global. The research and teaching at Keele University focuses on the varied dimensions of human experience and on the full range of cultural, economic and social challenges we face in a fast-changing world.

 Law with Professional Legal Practice - LLB (Hons)

Law with Professional Legal Practice offers a wealth of practical experience that will allow you to develop the required attributes for a career in law. You will study the foundations of legal knowledge and explore a range of areas of legal practice including criminal and civil litigation.

You will participate in a range of activities that will allow you to develop and refine the practical skills that are critical to a career within the legal profession, such as communication, client management, drafting, interviewing, and researching. You will gain insight into the diverse areas of legal practice and develop your skillset in a supportive environment.

You will be equipped to critically analyse and identify the appropriate principles and techniques for approaching a range of legal issues. You will be able to evaluate legal content and develop strong arguments, which are essential skills for aspiring advocates and barristers.

Your first year will provide you with a strong grounding in the structure of the English legal system and in core subjects, such as public law, contract law, tort law, and property law. It will also equip you with the essential skills required for studying law, including the ability to research and critique case law and legislation.

In your second year, you will study remedies in contract and tort, the law of real property, criminal law and EU law along two optional modules in each semester. For the law with professional legal practice pathway, you will take two professional legal practice options. You will have the option to study Civil Litigation, which takes you through the practical application of the law by interviewing and advising a client, and Residential Conveyancing, which teaches you the practice and procedure of conveyancing transactions.

In your final year, you will study the law of trusts and write a contemporary case law critique, alongside three optional modules in each semester. You will take two professional legal practice modules for this pathway from options including Professional Legal Skills, Criminal Litigation, and Wills, Probate and Drafting. All of these modules will engage you in the world of legal practice and enhance your legal skills and knowledge of procedure.
