Program Overview

The global events and leisure sector has seen an an explosion in growth and career opportunities. From managing large multi-purpose venues to organising individual events, there are plenty of varied and exciting careers to explore.

Our BA (Hons) Events Management course and will give you the skills, real-world experience and insights to develop a career in this growing sector. Through immersive learning and exposure to live, real-world clients and projects, this course lets you get hands on experience in designing, preparing and managing events of all sizes.

During your studies you’ll get to see behind the scenes of large-scale event venues such as the NEC in Birmingham to see how they organise national events including the Crufts dog show. Through a network of industry partners and guest speakers, you will be exposed to the real-world working environment and the challenges and opportunities it presents.

Employability is embedded into the course; everything is geared towards preparing you for work in the industry and giving you the skills and knowledge to make you attractive to employers or able to strike out on your own.

Through our very own student-led events management agency, Empower, you’ll get the chance to work with real-world clients on live events and projects to gain invaluable practical experience.

What's covered in this course?

This course covers every aspect of event management from designing, planning and managing live events to managing venues of all types and sizes.

The Technology and Event Production module allows you to get hands-on with the look and feel of your event and venue, covering visual projection, audio and sound design (including music and/or speaker microphones), lighting, AI, drones and interactive multimedia.

You’ll learn about managing numerous, simultaneous events and resources and also the minute details of individual events

disciplines and with industry and community partners. This engagement with one-to-one scale interventions and real-world practice helps you in your learning journey to become a more rounded and responsive designer.

The course offers you great opportunities. Students from all years are offered places to attend events such as national building information modelling (BIM) events, which provide a forum for you to engage directly with practitioners and industry specialists, as well as informing you of changes in current practice.

You'll also benefit from the insight of guest speakers and renowned American landscape architect Martha Schwartz, together with other practising architects from firms such as Foster and Partners, Make, Associated Architects, Invisible Studio, Mole Architects, Ash Sakula and various others. Film work also plays an important part in the perception of the city, and you’re encouraged to use this medium along with a wide variety of other creative outputs drawing upon our extensive workshop facilities.

In your final year, you'll showcase your work at the Graduate Show, an event attended by practitioners where previous students have been recruited by leading practices including Grimshaws, Hopkins Architects, Hawkins Brown and Glenn Howells Architects.

You will study in our state-of-the-art Parkside Building, which has been praised for its investment and facilities by RIBA. While based in Parkside, you will sharpen your CAD and digital visual communication skills, prototyping and digital production, while also having access to a range of specialist software

    Scholarships

    Undergraduate Scholarships 2026

    BCU is offering a guaranteed scholarship of £5,000 to all self-funding international undergraduate students joining BCU on a full-time degree in January or September 2026.

    The scholarship will be applied as a tuition fee discount of £3,000 in year one and £2,000 in year two. 

    There are no extra forms to fill in – just make your application to study at BCU and leave the rest to us.? 

    To be eligible for one of these scholarships, you will need to: 

    1. Be confirmed as a self-funded international fee payer 
    2. Successfully secure a place on a full-time undergraduate degree course in January or September 2026. 
    3. Enrol at BCU and begin your studies in January or September 2026. 

    Eligible

    The scholarship is available for full-time undergraduate degree courses.

    The following courses are excluded:  

    • Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Acting and Music courses (see details of our )
    • Sub-degree courses, such as foundation year entry, foundation degrees (FdA/FdSc) and HNC/HND
    • Courses delivered by BCU partners ()

    The scholarship will be applied as a tuition fee discount.

    2. Successfully secure a place on a full-time postgraduate degree course
