Program Overview

Become a skilled and competent environmental researcher and resource management employee and be able to apply skills relevant to the conservation industry.

This one-year diploma (or equivalent part-time) is your first step into the world of environmental science and management.

You'll explore topics like ecology, climate, freshwater quality, conservation strategies, and human impacts on natural systems.

Learn how to assess environmental health using data collection, field observations, and sampling techniques, and develop the practical thinking needed for real-world environmental work.

The programme is equivalent to the first year of a Bachelor of Applied Science.

If you're passionate about the natural world and want to build a strong scientific foundation, this programme is for you.

You will learn how to:

  • Describe global environmental issues (with a focus on New Zealand) to determine their impacts on societies and ecosystems, and basic mitigation measures.
  • Use data collection and surveying methods to monitor environmental ecological or asset management.
  • Manage field operations, projects, and engagement in a conservation setting.
