Materials and manufacturing engineers pioneer revolutionary industrial solutions by creating, optimising, and developing new high performance, net-shaped products with enhanced functionalities (e.g. sustainability). They are trained in the interdisciplinary field that explores the relationship between structure, processing, and properties of materials, which combines physics, chemistry, and engineering principles to solve real-world problems associated with new/recycled materials, enabling the advancement of all the other major engineering disciplines.

Students learn about the diverse types of materials such as metals and plastics used across various industries like aerospace, medicine, energy, construction, and electronics, in combination with both established and modern manufacturing processes such as additive manufacturing and 3D printing.
