Program Overview
Western Engineering provides unique learning experiences including access to state-of-the-art research facilities, topics that impact real-life scenarios, and mentorship by internationally recognized leaders in Engineering.
We are home to more than 600 graduate students studying in different research-based and professional-based degree programs in a range of fields and interests. Our Master of Engineering (MEng) program is structured to assist qualified engineers in the advancement of their professional careers, and to provide students with the skills necessary to address key technological challenges. We offer various technical streams within our MEng program to allow you to receive specialized knowledge in the specific area that interests you.
Applicants to the Master of Engineering may choose to enter the program in two ways:
- Standard Entry* – Complete the program in three terms (12 months).
- Pathway Entry – Complete the program in four terms (16 months) through one of two pathways.

Master’s Qualifying Pathway (MQP) Pathway A (4 terms)
This pathway offers the opportunity to upgrade English Language proficiency and build confidence in preparation for a graduate academic workload. In the first term, students will complete one graduate level course alongside the preparatory learning modules, which will result in an accelerated start of their professional Master’s program with 10% of coursework already completed.
Students in Pathway A will complete one term of study at WesternIC and upon successfully meeting all progression requirements will complete the remaining three terms for the MEng degree at the Faculty of Engineering.
Students will complete one credit-bearing graduate course alongside key learning modules to build essential skills for success in a competitive cohort throughout their professional master’s program at Western.
The first term of Pathway A is comprised of:
- One of the following graduate-level courses (0.5 credit):
- EngSci 9110 – Mathematical Methods in Engineering
- EngSci 9210 – Engineering Statistics and Reliability
- EngSci 9310 – Programming for Engineers
- EngSci 9320 – Introduction to Machine Learning
- EngSci9410 – Engineering Materials
- Additional Learning Activity:
- English Boost + Quantitative Language Module
- Category 1 Learning Modules:
- Academic Literacy in Context: Business & Technical Writing
- Collaborative Product Realization Lab
- Category 2 Learning Modules:
- Communication Skills: Practical and Intercultural Issues
- Collaborative Work Environments
Program Progression Requirements
You will progress to term two with 0.5 credit (one course) toward your degree upon successful completion of the Pathway A at WesternIC if you meet the following requirementss:
- A completion of your graduate level course with a cumulative average of 70% or higher.
- A completion of all Learning Modules with:
- Minimum grade of 70% English Boost + Quantitative Language Module
- Minimum grade of 70% in Category 1 Learning Modules
- Passing Grade in Category 2 Learning Modules
Master’s Qualifying Pathway (MQP) Pathway B (4 terms)
This pathway offers the opportunity to enhance academic readiness and build confidence in preparation for a graduate academic workload. In the first term, students will complete two graduate level courses alongside the preparatory learning modules, which will result in an accelerated start of their professional master’s program with 20% of coursework already completed.
Students in Pathway B will complete one term of study at WesternIC and upon successfully meeting all progression requirements will complete the remaining three terms for the MEng degree at the Faculty of Engineering.
Students will complete two credit-bearing graduate courses alongside key learning modules to build essential skills for success in a competitive cohort throughout their professional master’s program at Western

- Two of the following graduate-level courses (1.0 credit):
- EngSci 9110 – Mathematical Methods in Engineering
- EngSci 9210 – Engineering Statistics and Reliability
- EngSci 9310 – Programming for Engineers
- EngSci 9320 – Introduction to Machine Learning
- EngSci 9410 – Engineering Materials
- Category 1 Learning Modules:

- Category 2 Learning Module:
