Program Overview
The Associate of Arts in Mass Communication is a comprehensive course which deals with the basic concepts underlying communication and not just the practical aspects of it with great emphasis on community. Columbia College offers students a distinguished course in the field of communication that deals essentially with the study and theoretical aspects of communications contrary to its practical delivery that is taught in most of the universities. This program deals with the enhancement of the skills needed to understand the study of communications as well as the way it affects relationships, culture, history as well as technology. The Journalism and Mass Communication program offers concentrated study in select areas including print and electronic journalism, radio, television, journalism, advertising and public relations.
This two yearlong undergraduate degree helps foster a better understanding of the said subject by means of intertwining other discipline such as anthropology, political science, sociology, and history as well as business management. The program is taught with a different approach which includes different perspectives such as performance based courses, relationship based courses, and media focused courses as well as theoretical and critical courses. This careful distinction helps students understand the various aspects of communication and have a deeper understanding.
