Program Overview

The Honours Bachelor of Business Administration–International Business (HBBA-IB) program prepares graduates for a role in the complex, global, interdisciplinary environment of international business. Graduates of this four-year program will be prepared for roles in international trade, logistics, and investment, all critical to the ongoing success of the Canadian economy in a highly competitive global trade environment.

Graduates’ strong foundations in the functional areas of business management will prepare them to develop and critique business strategy to recommend evidence-based management solutions that maximize global value creation in the international business context. They will possess a breadth and depth of foundational business knowledge, as well as practical skills in the areas of economics, finance, marketing, human resources, operations and logistics, research and analytics, law and compliance, and cross-cultural communication. Critical thinking, problem-solving and a range of professional skills and capacities are honed to effectively engage with the complex issues that exist in the international business environment.

The program is grounded in the multi-faceted expertise of the School of Business, formerly the Business School, within the Faculty of Global Business and Creative Industries, home of the first Centre of Excellence in Logistics Learning in Canada, as designated by the Canadian Institute of Traffic and Transportation (CITT).

Unique to this program is the opportunity for students to achieve the certifications from the Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association (CIFFA) after completing two courses related to freight forwarding and global logistics and writing the certification exams in class. Courses in supply chain management, logistics, and trade and the opportunity to earn a professional designation in this area meet and serve an immediate need within international business as a result of a shift in business operations from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Graduates of this program will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to move into various areas of employment within the realm of international business. Career opportunities for graduates include importer/exporter, customs broker, international marketer, logistics coordinator, freight forwarder, trade analyst, foreign investment analyst, and business developer.

The HBBA-IB degree program is an ideal foundation for students who wish to pursue graduate studies in the field of international business. Building on a solid foundation in business generally and international business specifically, learners are able to move forward to more specialized postgraduate studies in various aspects of international business, including logistics and supply chain management or management and leadership studies.
