Program Overview

The Diploma in Communication Studies at Capilano University is a comprehensive 2 yearlong undergraduate program. The diploma is an extensive 60 credit program for students who wish to build a career in communication and its various verticals.  This program deals with the enhancement of the skills needed to understand the study of communications as well as the way it affects relationships, culture, history as well as technology. 

This diploma helps foster a better understanding of the said subject by means of intertwining other discipline such as anthropology, political science, sociology, and history as well as business management. The program is taught with a different approach which includes different perspectives such as performance based courses, relationship based courses, and media focused courses as well as theoretical and critical courses. This careful distinction helps students understand the various aspects of communication and have a deeper understanding. Students have the opportunity of building careers in a number of fields such as journalism, public, community and government affairs, media relations, audio visual programming, media administration and research, communications project development, publishing and policy analysis.

Capilano Excellence Scholarships (CAPX)

$56,000

Capilano Excellence Scholarships (CAPX) are the premier entrance scholarships at Capilano University. Up to 10 of these scholarships are offered each year and are awarded to both domestic and international high school graduates who have demonstrated excellence in academics and shown leadership in their school and community.

The scholarships are valued at up to $56,000 and are in the form of a domestic tuition and tuition surcharge fee waiver for a full academic year of studies (up to $14,000 per year) and are renewable for up to three additional academic years (total of eight terms).

How to apply for the Capilano Excellence Scholarship (CAPX):

  1. Apply to CapU
  2. Fill out the online Entrance Awards application through your myCapU Account
  3. Complete the following supporting documents:
    1. CAPX Essay
    2. CAPX Reference Letters
    3. Leadership Skills and Community and Campus Engagement Worksheet
      Instructions for completing the supporting documents are on the following pages.
  4. Using your CapU student email account, submit your supporting document package by email to [email protected] in PDF format only (zip files preferred).

Supporting documents must be submitted together as one package that includes your full name and Capilano University student number.

The deadline to apply for entrance awards and submit your supporting documents is March 1, 2026.
