Program Overview

Diploma of Engineering

The Diploma of Engineering provides guaranteed* entry into the second year of a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at the University of Wollongong (UOW). 

You will gain the skills to succeed in your UOW bachelor and cover core first-year engineering subjects, blending theoretical and practical components for hands-on experience in fundamental engineering areas and explore various engineering disciplines, including maths and physics. You will also graduate with a Higher Education Diploma to help get you into the workforce while completing your bachelor's degree. 


 

Progression to: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Environmental Engineering

Environmental engineers assess, plan and manage human impact on the natural and built environment in a sustainable manner. They identify problems and apply engineering knowledge and skills to develop solutions that are ethical and socially responsible. They design and operate processes and equipment for the supply of sustainable water, land, energy, waste, and transport, considering the systems' full life cycle. Environmental engineers work with interdisciplinary teams in consulting firms, regulatory authorities, in all levels of governments, and in research and development.

In your third and fourth year of the major you will branch into more specialised areas including water quality engineering, air and noise pollution control, solid and hazardous waste management, membrane science and technology, environmental engineering design, and site remediation engineering.

This major also includes 12-weeks hands-on industry experience, either in Australia or overseas, as well as a range of industry projects and other career-ready learning opportunities. You will also have the option to complete a double major, combining two engineering disciplines. Available double major combinations include civil engineering and environmental engineering as well as mining engineering and environmental engineering.
