With our Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours), you’ll gain the expertise to become a leader in shaping the future of healthcare through a curriculum designed for modern pharmacy practice.

You’ll learn to provide safe, effective and patient-centred care, using medicines to improve health outcomes.

You’ll graduate with the technical knowledge, critical thinking and communication skills necessary to succeed as a medicines expert. You'll be adaptable and ready to navigate new healthcare challenges as they arise.

Gain hands-on experience in state-of-the-art laboratories, mock dispensaries and simulated pharmacies at UQ’s cutting-edge biomedical science centre, designed specifically for the teaching of pharmacy-related subjects and research.

With 3 integrated streams of study, you'll develop knowledge and skills in the following:

  • Pharmacy practice and medicines management
  • Consultation and dispensing
  • Pharmaceutical sciences
  • Social pharmacy and the health system.

Our integrated approach means you’ll gain a strong understanding of how theory is applied to real cases across a wide range of settings.

Our interprofessional education program ensures you’ll know how to work as a valued member of a multi-disciplinary primary healthcare team once you graduate, work-ready, in a profession with one of the highest graduate employment rates in Australia.

 

Major: Clinical and Experimental Therapeutics

This optional major enables you to pursue a research-focused career in hospital pharmacy, the pharmacy industry or academia.
In your final year you'll have the opportunity to complete a yearlong research project while working as a part of a research team. You'll expand your knowledge and develop high-level skills in critical and analytical thinking, research design, writing and project management.

After graduating, you'll have the option to further develop your research skills through a PhD or Master of Philosophy.

Entry to this major is competitive, based on your grade point average and project availability.

    Academic Requirement

    • Minimum Level of Education Required: To be accepted for this program, students must have a Standard XII Higher Secondary Certificate, including the following required course(s):
      • General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C), and
      • General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C), and
      • Chemistry (Units 3 & 4, C). Biology is also recommended.

    • have met the conditions of your offer by the scholarship’s closing date (you don’t need to accept your full offer by the scholarship application deadline)
    • demonstrate strong academic performance in your previous studies.
       

    Selection criteria

    We’ll consider:

    • your academic performance (based on the academic credentials you submitted in your UQ Faculty of Science program application)
    • your capacity to create change and contribute to science (based on the personal statement you submitted in your scholarship application).
