Foundation Program

Designed specifically for international students, the UWA Foundation program will help students improve their subject knowledge and English language skills. Students can progress to Year 1 of any undergraduate degree at The University of Western Australia (UWA) upon successful completion to the required level.


Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) / Bachelor of Commerce (Dual Degree)

This combined degree option allows you to pair your engineering degree with your interest in business, finance, economics and the corporate world - broadening your career options and giving you an edge in a rapidly changing workforce. In just five* years, you can graduate as a professionally accredited engineer^ with your Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) along with a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in accounting, economics, finance, management or business law.


Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

The Engineering program at UWA has been developed with industry to equip you with the skills to succeed in your future careers. The course is built upon three core principles: Relevance, Integration and Excellence. Engineering at UWA is relevant to the contemporary world of engineering, integrates knowledge, technical capability and practical skills to create exceptional graduates.

In this course, you’ll complement your course content with work integrated learning (450-hour practical), co-curricular activities (including engineering clubs such as UWA Young Engineers, UWA Motorsport and specialisation specific clubs) and professional skills development to become part of the community of UWA engineering graduates preferred by industry for your technical skills, professional integrity and ability to solve complex open-ended problems.

In four years, you’ll graduate as an industry-ready engineer specialising in your choice of Automation and Robotics, Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Electronic, Environmental, Mechanical, Mining or Software engineering.


Major: Automation and Robotics Engineering

Combining relevant aspects from all engineering disciplines, software development, electronic hardware design and mechatronics, this major covers the principles, design and operation of industrial robot manipulators, as well as intelligent autonomous robots and self-driving vehicles.

Robotics, automation and Industry 4.0 will provide some of the most exciting opportunities and biggest challenges of our times. With new technologies being conceived every day, this is a rapidly evolving, exciting field that pushes the boundaries of what is possible.

This course is designed for those interested in contributing to developments in these fields and will provide you with the broad interdisciplinary knowledge and skills that industry is looking for.

The course combines software development with electronic hardware and mechanical/mechatronics design.

During your studies you will have hands-on experience in Python and C programming. You will design and run testing of digital and embedded systems, develop control methodologies for automation and robotics applications and work on open-ended projects in teams which include taking personal responsibility, reflection on ethical practice in engineering, and the use of industry standard codes and processes.


Bachelor of Commerce

Real-world experiences are at the heart of the Bachelor of Commerce. This degree develops your analytical, communication and problem-solving skills, providing you with a global perspective on business and preparing you to pursue a career within the business, government or not-for-profit sectors. Learn from leading academics, develop high-level industry networks and graduate with a degree that can take you anywhere in the world.

    Academic Requirement

    Minimum Level of Education Required: To be accepted for this program, students must have a one of the following:

    • Completion of Year 12 from state boards with an average 45% in four academic subjects and a passing grade in mathematics equivalent to Australian Year 10 High School
    • Completion of Senior School Certificate Examination Year 12 from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) with an average 40% in four academic subjects and a passing grade in mathematics equivalent to Australian Year 10 High School
    • Completion of Year 11 in CBSE and CISCE Boards with an overall average of 70% in academic subjects and a passing grade in mathematics equivalent to Australian Year 10 High School
    • Completion of Indian School Certificate Year 12 from Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) with an average 40% in four academic subjects and a passing grade in mathematics equivalent to Australian Year 10 High School
